This was our first meal in Edinburgh, and we were really craving seafood. This Mussel Inn was our perfect place to dine! We had a great seafood meal, and the service was also superb. Definitely order the mussel pot as it is their specialty here!
Food-wise: we absolutely loved our Mussel Pot, we picked the Natural flavor one as the mussels were very fresh, so cooking it in its own juice already provides sufficient flavor or umami! It was a good portion for the price, and it also comes with a side of bread. If you want more bread, it will be extra cost!
The king scallop appetizers were really good - super fresh and tender, and it was our first time trying out blood sausages (black pudding)! Not bad I have to say, especially with the citrusy sauce that came with it.
Finally, the hot seafood platter was really fresh and flavorful, we were scraping the plate with our bread in the end :) the platter was rather different from what we were expecting - it's not your average seafood stew, but rather a platter with fresh king and queen scallops, tiger prawns and mussels poached in seafood sauce and topped with grilled fillet of sea bass and a chive arme fraiche! We even asked if we can switch out the mussels, and add more of everything else, and the kitchen agreed!
The restaurant was still packed even though we were in the later hours for lunch, the room is bright and cozy, good place for friends gather and dates.
Overall I'd definitely recommend this place to my friends in Edinburgh, especially if they enjoy seafood!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 25 ago 2023
We were there in Aug 2022, during Festival, specifically for the Military Tattoo. We arrived a day before our friends arrived, so my wife and I went on a search for some dinner.
Yelp helped us find this lovely restaurant. We were particularly hungry that night after a long flight (read "we ate like piggies").
We ordered the grilled oysters topped with cheese and bacon. While very nice, it's not in the same flavor profile as you would think of a chargrilled oyster from Louisiana. Both tasty in their own right but in very different ways.
We couldn't pass up trying the mussels. I had been to Scotland 2x before, the UK overall a few more times than that. In all those trips, never knew mussels were a thing here. We had the mussels with shallot sauce and loved every bit of it (including using the bread and sopping up the liquor).
Lastly my wife couldn't say no to a shellfish pasta, so we shared a plate of that too. Bright and bold, pasta kept a nice mouth feel, wife was happy as a...wait for it...clam.
During the course of dinner, we noticed an older (not by much) come in and dine alone. She seemed so overjoyed to be there, ordered her food with a smile from ear to ear, the moment just spoke to us. We asked our server, who we found out later was the owner (nice!) to let us pay for the lovely lady's diner. We thought it was something nice we just wanted to do. Well, the owner and her husband came by and chatted a bit with us, and ended up giving us a toffee pudding on the house for the gesture. That was very kind of them, and we will remember our dining experience here for a long time thanks to the sweet owners. Thank you!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer K.Elkhart Lake, Stati Uniti29981423 apr 2024

Fantastic seafood at this Rose Street restaurant. Come here for some kicking Moroccan mussels. The sea bass was good too. We also had a sav blanc bottle too. Sticky date pudding was good too! Scallops were good too.

Most excellent place for serious seafood experience. Had chilled oysters. Scotland does not offer any seasonings or garnish or in house sauces. They are provided raw, on half shell. No more; no less.
Seafood platter was outstanding. Scallops come with a little claw like appendix - no food left behind. Fish, a sea bass, was excellent. Clams were excellent. Presentation was excellent. One of two best restaurants I have eaten at while visiting Edinburgh.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tamara A.Tacoma, Stati Uniti2714830 lug 2023
The previous reviews helped to keep us interested in coming here while visiting Edinburgh, drop ins will find it tough to eat here so highly recommend reserving a table which was super easy online. I had the salad with king scallops and my hubby got the lobster special. Our last dinner in Edinburgh was here and it was so good!!

My family and I had the grilled oysters, raw oysters, mussels and chowder. The grilled oysters were the worst of what we ordered and yet all of what we ordered and ate was fantastic!! My favorite was the chowder. Different than what we call clam chowder in the states but OMG! So good! Great base! The service was great also! Very popular with the locals.

The seafood chowder was excellent, full of flavor and pieces of smoked fish. The oysters with cheese and bacon, and the mussels special were also excellent in taste and in value. I'd highly recommend The Mussel Inn.

This is one of the best seafood place in Edinburg also it's very close to the train station and city center. The space is big and we came here for lunch were seated right away. They have lunch special offer for a bowl of mussel deal. Service is attentive
We ordered a 1/2 kilo mussels in the classic shallot wine and cream sauce ( they have 5 different sauce to choose from) for about £8 very decent price. Mussels are not big, that's just what they have here but very fresh. Tried whitebait, which is the tiny fishes deep fried you eat as chips, good but could use more salt. The tiger prawn portion is a little bit small, just only 4 small pieces, although it tastes good. The fries are ok, garlic bread is a must if you have mussels that you can deep in the sauceHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
